Nice Eyes

Written by David Hayward

About the show

Nice Eyes is a half hour monologue about an unusual character who needs a friend. It was one of the plays included in Emerging From The Collective Unconscious.

Performers looking for an audition monologue may find that the last part of the play can be used for this purpose (from "the last paragraph on page 7 starting with "Did you ever notice..." until the end).

From the writer

The play started out with the character. He came to me when I was out cycling somewhere, and I came back and wrote a couple of pages in the form of a monologue intended to portray the essence of the character. The idea was that maybe we could use him in a collaborative piece we were contemplating. But the couple of pages started to grow. And then I had a dream and the idea for the story came together.

I find the character intriguing and slightly surreal. Yet I believe that what he is experiencing in the play is something that many people will relate to. It is quite different from my other piece (Chastity), but I hope you will find it equally enjoyable.
